I very much wanted to create a Hawaiian style meditation emphasizing the Seven Spiritual Principles which can manifest in the seven energy centers of our being, when I met Aunty Mahealani in February 2003. She was speaking at a gathering of healing practitioners, and as she spoke she delivered her words with such Aloha Spirit and spoke about the Ha breath that I use in the meditation formats.

I asked her if she would be willing to record a Meditation CD with me. I was privileged to attend her Pono Ke Ala classes and I learned so much about the Hawaiian culture. She is the messenger from the Kupunas (ancestors) for the teaching of Pono Ke Ala which is based in the pureness of the Aloha Spirit. These sacred teachings come from Ancient Hawaii and were a way of life from 342 to 1299 A.D. before the arrival of the warrior Tahitians and the Western-Christian influence. In her classes, I learned about the Hawaiian history and ancient beliefs. My favorite part was learning how to chant and pray in Hawaiian.

We are happy to share with you our joint endeavor to deliver the Aloha Spirit and Hawaiian spiritual principles in this meditation format.

The Hawaiian prayer consists of planting a seed (ano ano) of thought and nourishing it daily with Mana. The connection to Mana is with the breath, called Ha.

Mana is the essence of spiritual energy which resides in everything, a silent force permeating all of nature. Mana is a vibrational power flowing through all living things. It is in everything....people, plants, rocks, trees, the mountains, the valleys, the ocean waves...even thoughts and words carry Mana. Each prayer is offered by gathering Mana by taking several deep breaths.

Using Ha, the Breath of Life, each inhale is an invitation to our spiritual source. Each exhale is a release to Mother Nature to recycle negative energy into positive energy, just as carbon dioxide is recycled into the oxygen we breath. In this meditation, we use seven Ha breaths and affirm each center of Aloha Mana in our physical beings.

This CD is dedicated to the Native Hawaiian in Recovery.
